Postage can affect both sides of the calculation
What the buyer pays for delivery is revenue. What you pay to send the parcel is a cost. Entering only one of those amounts can overstate or understate profit.
For a general UK business listing, the final value percentage is based on the sale total, which normally includes postage and applicable taxes. Adding postage income without updating the fee base creates an overly optimistic result.
A simple order
Suppose an item sells for £50, the buyer pays £3 postage, and your actual delivery cost is £3. Your sale total is £53. The fee calculation normally starts with £53, while delivery cost is deducted separately from profit.
Charging exactly enough to cover a postage label does not necessarily cover the additional marketplace fee associated with that postage revenue. Packaging and handling are other costs to consider.
Free delivery still has a cost
When the listing offers free delivery, enter zero postage revenue and your actual delivery cost. That cost has to be covered by the item price. Do not leave it out just because the buyer does not see a separate postage charge.
Fixed fees belong to an order
The calculator models a single-item order. If a buyer purchases several items in one order, the per-order charge should be counted once and allocated across items when assessing individual product margins. Using one fixed charge per item would overstate the total fees.
Check exceptions and account settings
Qualifying trainer transactions through Authenticity Guarantee have a postage exception. Premium Service listings, performance surcharges and qualifying low-value order charges can also affect fees. Use those adjustments only when they apply to the actual listing.
Compare delivery scenarios
Try the same product with a different delivery cost or a small packaging allowance. Compare the remaining profit in pounds. For international deliveries, select the relevant fee region and include the effective postage cost you expect to pay.
